Last Sky Commuter prototype finally sold for $131,700

After eyeing this item for the past 10 days, it is finally sold. The Sky Commuter prototype, which was listed on eBay Motors and had been generating quite a buzz in the media, has been sold to an eBayer by the name of prattesgirl

The Sky Commuter Project was funded by Boeing engineers in Arlington, WA, back in the mid 80's in hopes of replacing wheeled cars with flying ones. With over 60 investors and $6 million in R&D fund, the project went bust and yieled only 3 prototypes. However, the one listed on eBay was the only one that survived.

Wow-pen joy mouse - An ergonomically designed mouse

Wow Technology(www.wow-pen.com), well known for pen-type mouse, unveiled its ergonomically designed USB mouse ‘Wow-Pen Joy’ in Korea market.

Supporting Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista, the Wow-Pen Joy features 800 dpi resolution and 200g weight. It is expected to be available in Korea, North America and Sweden market simultaneously in mid March. Suggested price is below 20,000(KRW) or 30(USD).

The world's thinnest notebook - MacBook Air

The new MacBook Air isn't actually invisible like I first suspected. Nor does it float. It's just way thin and has no optical drive. The Air rocks a 13.3" screen, is 0.76 inches at the thickest, weighs 3 pounds, and features a multi-touch trackpad. It comes with an ultrathin 80GB hard drive, but you've got the option for a 64GB solid-state drive if you prefer yours with no moving parts. Part of the Air's appeal is its incredible wireless diversity. You can install software on the machine by "borrowing" the disk drive of another computer and having it send the data to the Air.

You can also transfer files wirelessly from another computer or the new Time Capsule external HD/Wi-Fi station. The 1.6GHz with 80GB standard hard drive starts at $1,800. The 1.8GHz with 64GB solid-state hard drive starts at $3,100. Both models begin shipping in two weeks.

Sports car concept - Mitsubishi

The Concept-RA is built on an aluminum space frame and most of its body panels, including the hood and fenders, are made from a recyclable plastic resin that's impact resistant. That brings the weight down so that the 2.2L four-cylinder turbodiesel doesn't have to work as hard to make the car go. The diesel features Mitsu's MIVEC valve timing technology, as well as direct injection and piezoelectric injectors. It requires no urea injection to meet our strict emissions standards for diesels, instead relying on a smorgasbord of traps, filters and catalytic converters.

Despite its formidable green cred, the 2.2L mill produces just over 200 HP and 310 ft-lbs. of torque. Like the best Eclipses of old, it sends power to all four wheels, though through a more modern Twin Clutch SST transmission. Mitsubishi's Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) also keeps the car planted by coordinating the efforts of a variety of systems, including the brakes, stability control, steering and damping.








Technology for superhuman vision

University of Washington researchers have been developing an electronic contact lens that could someday display important information in your field of vision. Early prototypes have been tested on rabbits for short stints without any adverse effects and the researchers say lenses that can display a few pixels worth of information will be available soon.

The research is being funded by the National Science Foundation and scientists recently presented their findings at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ conference. Using super-thin plastics and electronics just a few nanometers thick, they managed to fashion some circuits and red light emitting diodes into a lens. These lenses were then placed onto the eyes of rabbits for up to 20 minutes.

A working bionic lens could be a boon to tech workers who need quick access to important information. Of course you can bet the military would be very interested in this technology for their soldiers.

For now the LEDs on the contacts don’t light up, but the researchers say one that can show a few pixels of light will be available “fairly quickly” according to the source article from the University of Washington news service. Full display contacts will still take “a while”.
